January can be quieter after a busy festive period. A Transformation of the Year launch event is a great way to retain current clients, attract new ones and get those course bookings! You could promote a ‘one day only’ event a number of ways:
Use January to your advantage
January can be quieter after a busy festive period. A Transformation of the Year launch event is a great way to retain current clients, attract new ones and get those course bookings! You could promote a ‘one day only’ event a number of ways:

New Year, New Skin
January is all about new beginnings and healthy living. Clients will have a list of new year resolutions and goals that they want to achieve, and many of them may be skincare related.

Skin Is An Investment
Use the launch of the competition to get clients to start seeing their skin as an investment. Use the before and afters from previous years to show them what they could achieve if they start now. Talk about the client stories and the confidence gained. Offering mini consultations, patch tests and taster treatments during the event is a great way for clients to get started with their new year skincare goals, in a fun environment with no pressure. You could offer a "buy 5 get 6" treatment deal for anyone who books their course during the event.

Curate Special Packages
After the harshness of winter, and the indulgence at Christmas, entering a new year confidently can be difficult. Get real with your clients about how you can help them with their skincare concerns and insecurities. Curate special packages and offer free in depth consultations to start building that relationship with your clients. Speak directly to the concerns that clients may have, for example, winter skin SOS package, anti-ageing package, pigmentation package, pedicure package, unwanted hair package etc.

Skincare Subscriptions
For clients who want to invest in their skin, but want to spread out their treatment plan, you could offer a ‘SkinBase Skincare Subscription’ plan. This allows clients to commit to a course of treatment, and pay for them as they go. The subscriptions could be different prices, and offer different benefits. For example:

  • The Glow Subscription: A monthly treatment & a 10% discount on skincare products.
  • The Radiance Subscription: 2 treatments a month & a 15% discount on skincare products.

You can personalise the subscriptions to each specific client depending on their skin needs and budgets.

Glow Together in 2025 (Bring a Friend Days)
You can benefit from your loyal clients, and get them to find new clients for you. Instead of a launch event, you could have specific "bring a friend" days during January that clients can book onto. Many of us are feeling frazzled after a hectic and busy Christmas,  promote these as a time to be together, have some relaxation, get pampered, etc. Offer a 2 for 1 deal on the day e.g. 50% off your treatment when bringing a friend. To keep the clients coming back (which is the aim of the day!) you could use an add on when booking a course of treatments e.g. free homecare product each if they both book a course.

Valentine's Prep
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it is the perfect time for a mini treatment course to have glowing skin for Valentine’s and beyond. Make sure your clients know that regardless of their Valentine’s plans, it is time for them to show their skin some love! Get promoting your "Valentine’s Skin" package in person and across your social media. To make it more appealing for clients, you could include a free skincare product when they book a course, or give them a % off a treatment voucher after their first session, for use before Valentine’s.
Talking About The Competition
Don’t forget to talk about the competition with all of your clients! Let them see the before and after images, hear the client testimonials, and get excited about the potential prizes! The Transformation of the Year 2022 and 2023 books are an excellent way to communicate the benefits of a course of treatment and let clients know more about the competition. Follow Up!
After an event day, with lots of potential new clients having tried your treatments, don’t forget to check in with them! See how they are feeling and ask how their skin is doing. Emphasise once again the aftercare that they should be following to ensure their skin is the best it can be. If they haven’t booked in yet, tell them what you would advise for future care - acknowledge their skin concerns, tell them how many treatments you would recommend etc. Show that you care and set yourself apart from the competition, and they will come back.

How To Enter
As with the previous years, you enter the competition by simply posting your before and after images into the SkinBase Therapist group on Facebook. Include some additional information, such as:
  • Business name
  • Therapist name
  • Client name (they can remain anonymous if they wish to - but we do need a release form signed by each entrant)
  • Treatment type & number of treatments
  • Client testimonial
Tips for Entering:
Here are our top tips for entering the Transformation of the Year competition in 2025:

Client Positioning
One of the rules for entering is the position of the clients when taking the before and after images. So you should ensure:
  1. Client is lying down in both the before and after
  2. Or, the client is standing/sitting up in both the before and after.

Posting Your Entry
When posting your entry into the SkinBase Therapist Facebook group, you simply need to upload one before and one after picture as separate original images.

  • You do not need to add your logo to images - you will be credited in the competition template with your instagram @ (or business name).

  • You do not have to put your own images into the template - Just post your original images into the group.

  • You do not have to add before and after text to images - ensure the before is on the left and the after is on the right to avoid any confusion.

Client Consent
To enter the competition, your client must give consent. They should be aware of the terms and conditions, and how their images will be used. Get them to fill in the release form (sent to your email) as soon as possible during the competition month you enter. The form is not unique to each client - so if you enter multiple times you can send them the same link.

Before & Afters
The competition entries that make it through to the final are those that show a true before and after - with the same camera, lighting, angle, expression etc. You don’t want to minimise the impact of your fabulous transformations by having before and after pictures that are not similar enough. Here are our top tips:

Neutral Expression: No sad face before, happy face after, keep the expression the same in both pictures, preferably a neutral, mouth closed position.

Same Angle: It’s much easier to compare two pictures when the positioning is the same. Keep the height and distance at which the pictures are taken the same and ensure the same area of the face is included in the pictures. Use a point of reference to help you ensure the after photo is positioned in the same way.

Good Lighting: Lighting is key and will ensure your images appear in focus. Natural light is best. If you can, position your client near a window, but not with the sun shining directly in. If this isn’t possible use a flash on the camera and have a well-lit room. This will minimise shadows which can make features like wrinkles and scarring appear worse than they are. Try and take the pictures at a similar time of day if you can as well. Get them back on a different day if you need to get the best picture.

Client’s appearance: As well as the positioning, you should try to keep the posture the same. Back straight, shoulders back, head facing directly forward. Remove any makeup for the pictures. Hair tied back away from the face, or use a hairband.

Background: A clear background, e.g. a blank space of wall, will ensure there are no distractions from the image.

Same Camera: Difference in camera quality can vary wildly, even between phones. Keep to the same phone or camera and the same settings.

Focus. Make sure the image is clear and in focus in both pictures. Transformations with an out of focus before picture don’t accurately show the results. Take a few pictures so you have multiple to choose from when entering.

High resolution images. Some phones will save at a low resolution, make sure you don't have this setting on, you want images as big as possible.
What You Need To Know for 2025

Categories

At the end of the year, all of the finalists will be judged in their own treatment category. Our category winners will receive the title of Therapist of the Year e.g. "Microdermabrasion Therapist of the Year" and a £500 gift card for them and their client. They will also receive an award plaque for their category and a free promotional week to use. Our category winners will go on to compete for their client to become the overall Transformation of the Year winner and the winning therapist will be crowned SkinBase Therapist of the Year 2025.

Judging
The finalists each month will be chosen by SkinBase. There will be no public or therapist votes in 2025. All monthly finalists will receive a transformation finalist award plaque and certificate to proudly display in their business. Our Transformation of the Year winners will still be chosen by our panel of judges.

TOTY Prizes
There are lots of prizes available in the Transformation of the Year competition:
  • Caribbean Holidays: Our SkinBase Transformation of the Year and their therapist will each win a Caribbean holiday to Barbados.
  • Promotional Days: Entries will receive a free promo day (up to a max. of 4 per year).
  • Promotional Weeks: Each of our category winners will receive a free promotional week to use.
  • Finalist Awards: All monthly finalists will receive a transformation finalist award plaque and certificate to proudly display in their business.
  • Winners Awards: Each of our category winners will receive a Transformation winner award plaque.
  • £500 gift cards: Each of our category winners will receive a £500 gift card for them and their client.
SkinBase Promotional Days
As mentioned above, by entering the Transformation of the Year competition in 2025 and sharing your fabulous results, you will receive a free promo day (up to a max. of 4 per Transformation year). These days can be used to create content, host a taster day/evening, or offer special promotions. It’s up to you!

Client Stories
The client testimonials are always a great read. They enhance the power of the before and after images, as we get to really understand how a course of treatments has changed your clients’ lives. This year, we’re looking at other ways to build on and expand the competition to include and showcase you!
