Start Talking!
To get the most out of the competition you really need to put some work in to promoting it. Start by talking to your clients. Sounds obvious, we know! But how often do you actually talk about all the treatments you offer?

How often do you sit your clients down and say, "I really think you would see some great improvements to your skin if you trust me to help you with this? What do you feel are your biggest skin concerns? What would you like to improve most about your skin? - Open that dialogue and find out what they want to achieve and then you can recommend a treatment plan working to get the results they want, and ultimately the best transformation result.

Don't take 'No' for an answer
How often do you just accept a 'No', 'I can't afford it', or 'It's not for me' from a client when you talk about a new treatment and never ask again? 
Here at SkinBase, we like to think of a 'No' as just a lack of understanding. We know our products are amazing so if someone is saying no it must mean they don't understand yet why they need it and why it will be great for them and so it's our job to convince them (and also why we offer a free trial!).

Case Studies, Testimonials, Before and Afters

This is where case studies, word of mouth and testimonials are really useful. These are your most powerful marketing tools. If you can, film one of your clients having the treatment while you talk about it and talk to them about their experience after. Share before and afters to show the results. Ask clients to recommend a friend. Film a demo or host an event in the salon for people to come and see the treatment being carried out and find out more.

Communication
What next? Repeat the message. Repeat it in different ways, on different platforms. Get the message out there and in front of your clients. We are bombarded with messages 24/7, and we are pretty good at filtering them out so the more diverse your tactics for reaching people the better. Text message, email, social media, local adverts, shop noticeboards and local community boards -and repeat!

Quickstart guide for taking before and afters

Some results we see in the group and on people's pages are really good but unfortunately the before and after images let them down. Following our tips will eliminate distractions from your images and achieve the best possible comparison to highlight your great results.

  1. Neutral expression. No sad face before, happy face after, keep the expression the same in both pictures, preferably a neutral, mouth closed position.
  2. Keep the angle the same in all pictures. It’s much easier to compare two pictures when the positioning is the same. Keep the height and distance at which the pictures are taken the same and ensure the same area of the face is included in the pictures. Use a point of reference to help you ensure the after photo is positioned in the same way.
  3. Good lighting. Lighting is key and will ensure your images appear in focus. Natural light is best. If you can, position your client near a window, but not with the sun shining directly in. If this isn’t possible use a flash on the camera and have a well-lit room. This will minimise shadows which can make features like wrinkles and scarring appear worse than they are. Try and take the pictures at a similar time of day if you can as well. Get them back on a different day if you need to get the best picture.
  4. Client’s appearance. Keep posture the same. Back straight, shoulders back, head facing directly forward. Remove any makeup for the pictures. Hair tied back away from the face, or use a hairband. Wear the same clothing if possible.
  5. Background. A clear background, a blank space of wall is ideal, will ensure there are no distractions from the image.
  6. Use the same camera. Difference in camera quality can vary wildly, even between phones. Keep to the same phone or camera and the same settings.
  7. Focus. Make sure the image is clear and in focus in both pictures. Take a few so you have a few to choose from
  8. High resolution images. Some phones will save at a low resolution, make sure you don't have this setting on, you want images as big as possible.
