June is Acne Awareness Month, so there is no better time to start a conversation about acne. As the weather heats up, clients don’t want to cover up their skin or hide behind layers of makeup. They will be looking for a successful Acne treatment to free their skin, and you could be the one to offer it to them. Acne affects 95% of people aged between 11 and 30, and even 3% of those over 35 suffer from adult acne! It is most common in girls aged 14-17 and boys aged 16-19.
Despite acne being so prevalent, it is often a misunderstood skin condition due to widespread misconceptions. The easiest way to combat this is to spread the correct information and inform clients.
Bust the Myths
As you know, the best way to treat acne-prone skin is with a good skincare routine, a healthy lifestyle and regular professional treatments. To ensure clients realise the best methods of dealing with problem skin, you must highlight which strategies are less successful and could be potentially damaging.
Start a Conversation
For some people, acne may cause embarrassment or shame, emphasising the need for open, honest conversations about causes, triggers and treatments. Starting a discussion on your social media pages and in your salon is the best way to promote a dialogue with clients that will remove negativity.
Give Advice and Recommend
Advising clients on skin care treatments and products that will work best with their skin type is a great step after educating them. After a consultation, it may be clear that their skin will respond better to IPL or Microdermabrasion. Ensure you are recommending the best treatments for their specific skin type. They may also need to adapt their home care routine to achieve the best results. Clients will happily accept recommendations for products that enhance their treatment results, so do not forget to cross-sell services or recommend retail products.
Offer Promotions
The best way to achieve results is through a course of treatment. Use the excellent before and after pictures from the SkinBase Transformation of the Year Competition to show clients why they should book multiple treatments to transform their skin. You could also offer promotions to encourage course booking, such as a % off or a free treatment when booking 6+ treatments.
